Introduction
These graduate and doctorate courses are designed to produce professional technological manpower that possesses the combination of theoretical knowledge and practical capability required by today's industry. This program is operated in collaboration between KIST and local universities. Under this program, students participate in state-of-the-art research work conducted by KIST to earn masters or doctorate degrees.

Fostering of high-level manpower with the combined theoretical and practical knowledge to lead development of the state-of-the-art technology required by today's industry
 
Production of professional technological manpower that can be utilized directly after being put into the field.
Establishment of mechanisms to transfer and distribute the research products of KIST to industry

Management Policy Policy
The program is managed on the same level with graduate courses of each participating university in accordance with university regulations. Education includes class work, experiments, field work and research.
A joint advisory system is implemented, under which a student receives advice from both a KIST researcher and a professor of the relevant university for his or her thesis.
Roles
  - Universities: lectures on basic subjects, management of administrative affairs, and conferment of degrees
  - KIST: lectures on special subjects, experiments, field work, and advice on research for thesis

Characteristics of the courses
Participation in KIST research
  Students participate in state-of-the-art research assigned by the government and conducted by KIST full-time, immediately after admission Students will find themselves more capable of and experienced in conducting experiments and field work after completing courses, since they directly participate in KIST's research .
Advice on preparation of theses
  The subject of the thesis derives from the KIST research the student has participated in. A student who is taking a doctoral course is required to publish at least one article in an internationally respected academic journal. A researcher from KIST and a professor from the relevant university will advise a student on preparation of his thesis jointly.
For smooth operation of research, a KIST's researcher is appointed as a guest professor at the university and a professor of the university is appointed as a guest researcher of KIST.
 
Training in specialized technology connected to research KIST provides lectures on specialized subjects to improve student capabilities in ¡¤R & D management and surface analysis.
