Since human history began, it has been the greatest interest for the human race to live a healthy, prosperous life with no disease. In spite of the cutting-edge medical techniques, we have higher chances to suffer from new and incurable diseases due to the highly-ordered, advanced social complexity and growing average lifespan. However, the recent remarkable development of our life science technology has led us to understand mechanisms of human diseases down to the molecular level, and by doing so, we are now able to come up with new therapeutical targets and approach toward the cure. Biomolecules Function Research Center contributes to the treatment/prevention of disease and the improvement of human health/well-being by understanding the overall interactions between living organisms and chemical substances and applying it to the personalized medicine and to accomplish this mission we have two different approaches. One is to identify biological functions and interactions between molecules through OMICs technology. The Center has conducted a wide range of researches based on the analytical techniques to trace bio/environmental materials using ultra precision analytical equipments : metabolomics, peptidomics, pharmacology, toxicology, pharmacokinetics, risk assessment on chemical substances, and systems biology. The other one is to study disease mechanisms at the molecular level, to suggest effective targets, and ultimately to develop bioactive molecules as novel drug candidates. The discovery and validation of novel protein targets by chemical biology is also under construction to accomplish this goal.
