- KIST is a global science & technology research institute and a leader among peer institutes in Korea in support of innovative international programs and initiatives as well as working directly with international communities, countries, and partner institutes.
Presently, there are over 80 partner institutes with ongoing collaboration with KIST around the world, including those in the U.S., Japan and Germany. This extensive network allows KIST to actively pursue international research projects, host international conferences, exchange researchers, and launch other related programs.
With the launch of KIST Europe in Saarbrucken, Germany in 1996, KIST pushed forth its initiative for S&T globalization via penetrating into R&D source countries. KIST Europe has since become KIST's research base in the EU community, carrying out cutting-edge core technology research operations, thus facilitating multilateral S&T cooperation among Korea and European countries. KIST also established the Indo-Korea Science and Technology Center to utilize India's abundant S&T potential and lay the groundwork for trade cooperation with one of the largest markets in the world.
Other international activities include the transfer of KIST’s knowledge and available technology to developing counties in order to assist in their endeavor to support sustainable growth, offering a graduate program to prospective scientists and engineers through the International R&D Academy, and the implementation of campus globalization initiatives to create a research environment that is attractive to scientists and students from abroad.
